Insta-shop Till You Drop!

At Emote Digital we’re always excited to hear of new ways of improving user experiences. After all, our strengths lie in creating websites that work, enhancing the UX and achieving more conversions for clients.

That’s why we were delighted to hear that Instagram is testing a way for users to learn more about the items they see in a post, without having to leave the app.

Browsing and researching products on your phone anytime you please is part of today’s modern lifestyle. You could be in the dentist’s waiting room, commuting into work on the tram or train, or simply having a quick sneaky shop while your kids enjoy the playground.

However, finding more information about the specific products you see on Instagram isn’t always an easy process. Being taken straight to checkout from shop window doesn’t give you the opportunity to really consider a purchase.

Twenty US-based retail brands are participating in Instagram’s test project, including Kate Spade, JackThreads, Levi’s Brand, Macy’s and Warby Parker. They will share deeper posts, making it easier for Instagrammers to research, learn about and consider the items that interest them.

Each post will have a tap to view icon at the bottom left of a photo. When tapped, a tag will appear on various products in the post (up to five products and their prices). By selecting a tag, a new, more detailed view of the product will appear.

This functionality will bring important product information to the consumer earlier in the journey, without them having to leave the Instagram app. If the consumer taps the Shop Now link from the product details view, they’ll go directly to that product on the business’ website.

In our line of business, we’re all about seamless experiences and making it easier for customers to buy online. This development from Instagram will bring about even better social media experiences for today’s consumer.
